About Us

We have served the Isle of Man for nearly fifty years
But our mission has been the same since day one

Since our first day on the 3rd July 1971, we have been dedicated to serving the Christian community on the Isle of Man with quality books and other resources. Furthermore, our presence in the heart of Douglas enables us to serve as a Christian witness to the wider community.

We believe our calling is an important one - to equip others in their ministries, to enable the saints to follow their calling and to encourage and uplift those who may be discouraged or weary. We have been doing this for nearly fifty years, and though much has changed, our core belief remains the same - Christian books change lives.

If our mission resonates with you, please do get in contact to see how you can support us or get involved.

A fresh vision for the future

Our upcoming 50th anniversary has given us the perfect opportunity to look again at our vision and values, and ensure they are relevant for the opportunities and challenges in today's world. Our full vision document is titled 'Vision50' and will be released in full shortly. For now, we are excited to share our new mission statement which has come out of this work.
Churches Bookshop exists to be a Christian presence in central Douglas which acts as a community hub, supports local authors, artists, churches and other bodies, is relevant and accessible and upholds the Apostle’s Creed.

Our Staff

As a shop we rely on volunteers to keep our doors open. Our great team do a fantastic job serving the community and are passionate about ensuring Christian resources are available on the high street.

We employ two managers on a part-time basis to handle the more involved jobs within the shop, such as ordering, arranging events and organising advertising.

Andrew and Georgia Wedgwood Mayne have managed the shop together since January 2017. Andrew trained as a Youth Worker with SUMT on the Isle of Man, and Georgia studied Archaeology at Reading University. Despite not having a background in retail, they felt called to the bookshop manager role, and share the job between them. They are our youngest managers so far, and have spent a lot of time working to make the shop more inviting to a younger audience, without alienating those who already used the shop. Their work was recognised at the 2019 Christian Resources Together Retreat, where they received the Young Contributors Of the Year award sponsored by SPCK.
